简介

Lui Cho Hung was born in Hong Kong in 1950 and grew up in Kowloon Yau Ma Tei with five older sisters, with his father owning a restaurant. After his father's business failed and he passed away when Lui was five, the family moved to Tiu Keng Leng to live in wooden houses. While studying at Ming Yuen Primary School, his drawings inspired by the legend of Chang'e impressed his teachers and mother, planting in him a love for the arts. After completing secondary school at Ming Yuen Catholic School, he worked for a period before traveling to Britain to study television and film art design at Berkshire College of Art and Design between 1978 and 1982. During his time in Britain, he worked as a part-time art designer at the BBC between 1979 and 1983. He returned to Hong Kong in 1983 at the invitation of a senior RTHK official and became head of the art department in the television division. He moved to the Independent Commission Against Corruption between 1986 and 1989 as television production chief, where he met director Lam Tak Luk. He began his film career in 1988 when he worked on "Call Girl 1988," then resigned from ICAC in 1989 to fully commit to film work. He received six Hong Kong Film Award nominations for Best Art Direction, winning twice in 2006 and 2023, and was a founding member of the Hong Kong Film Art Society.
