He later left TVB for the film industry but did not achieve notable success and was even dubbed "King of Bad Films" due to taking many low-quality movies. He then moved behind the camera as a director, producer, lyricist, and composer. He became best known for starring in and hosting supernatural-themed works such as the "Yin Yang Road" film series and "Strange Talk," earning him the nickname "Ghost King," though he himself was not superstitious. In 2012, he married Guangdong TV host Ma Li and had one son. He suffered from throat cancer and passed away on September 7, 2026 in Guangzhou from stomach cancer at the age of 62.
