简介

Leung Kin Ping (Sam Leung) is a Hong Kong actor born on July 1, 1960. He grew up in the Tsuen Wan and Kwai Chung New Area in the New Territories and had a younger brother four years his junior; his father ran a lumber factory and a tea restaurant in Yau Tong. He attended Heung To Middle School on Chatham Road, where his academic performance was average. After completing Form 5, he worked at a factory in Tsuen Wan. He later learned from newspapers that Shaw Brothers film studio was hiring film processing staff and applied for the job. After one year, in 1982, skin poisoning from chemical solutions led him to switch to film editing, and in 1983 he moved to the props department at TVB, where he worked on productions such as 《再見十九歲》 and 《荳芽夢》. He was then transferred to the advertising department (1983–1985). Between 1985 and 1986, he worked at several advertising production companies in Kowloon Tong, covering areas such as assistant directing, assistant directing, research, location scouting, and production. He also worked as a guest artist at ATV and TVB to earn additional income. One day, producer Leung Choi Yuen noticed him and invited him to make a guest appearance in the TV drama 《城市故事》. Believing his acting skills were weak, he applied to join the 15th Artist Training Class in 1988 as an auditor, where his classmates included Donnie Yen, Kenny Wong, Andy Lau's colleague Frankie Lam, and others. Leung Kin Ping sought guidance from veteran artists such as Tsang Kong, Bao Fang, and Shek Kin, and even held a banquet to formally acknowledge Kwan Hoi Shan as his mentor. Two months after appearing in 《城市故事》, TVB's artist management approached him to discuss a contract, and he became a TVB artist from 1986 on a two-year contract while working at Wong Jim's advertising agency. He specialized in roles such as office colleagues, executives, and businessmen, playing both good and bad characters. His notable work includes playing "Ah Ping" in 《棟篤神探》, forming an on-screen pair with Suet Nei. He participated continuously for 20 years from 1989 to 2009 in the Hong Kong ICAC drama series, making him the actor with the longest continuous participation and most appearances since the series began in 1976. In 2011 and 2012, he gained public attention through his roles as gang leader "Willy" in 《潛行狙击》, imperial chef "Bao Sheng" in 《耀舞長安》, and wealthy villain "Luk Kwong Chiu" in 《拳王》. At the end of 2012, he left TVB after 26 years and joined Hong Kong Television Network. One reason for not renewing his contract was witnessing guest artists being yelled at by the lead actor during filming of 《紫禁驚雷》 and the lack of adequate rest during long shooting schedules. In 2015, before his contract with HKTVN expired, he appeared in the Korean drama 《命中注定我愛你》 in 2014 and was recognized by British director Maxim Bessmertny, who cast him in the short film 《三輪車伕》 after an audition. The film was selected for the 39th Toronto International Film Festival, competing for Best Short Film. In 2018, he became famous in China and Hong Kong after reruns of his 2010 appearance in 《讀心神探》 as Cheng Tze Chung's sidekick went viral, and he was invited to appear in a mobile game advertisement. He currently works as a freelance actor.
