劉洵 (演員)
简介
Lau Shun was a Hong Kong actor born in Beijing in 1939 who began learning Peking opera at the age of six in a specialized school, studying under masters such as Li Wanchun, Shang Yuyu, Li Shaochun, and Gai Jiaotian. After graduating in 1958 he worked with the China Peking Opera Theatre and taught there, also performing in model operas during the Cultural Revolution. In 1980 he moved to Hong Kong, citing dissatisfaction with bureaucracy in mainland China, and became a lecturer at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts specializing in Cantonese opera studies, mentoring several prominent artists. He entered the film industry in 1986 when director Tsui Hark hired him as a Peking opera consultant for "Peking Opera Blues," then went on to appear in dozens of films in diverse supporting roles. He was known for his ability to portray both villainous and virtuous characters, earning him the nickname "The Thousand-Faced Buddha." In the 21st century he focused on directing and adapting stage opera productions with Cantonese opera troupes. He was awarded an honorary fellowship by the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts in 2019, and passed away on 29 May 2026 at the age of 87.
