Bob Lam Chi Pok grew up in Mei Tung Estate in Kowloon, Hong Kong, graduating from Wah Tak School in 1984 and Model English Secondary School in 1987, before attending the 29th training class of the Royal Hong Kong Police Cadet School. He entered the entertainment industry in 1992 by participating in PolyGram karaoke music videos, and two years later joined Asia Television after taking part in the Television New Star Contest, where he became widely known for hosting "Today We Watch It Really." After leaving ATV in 2006, he worked at East Asia Television and then moved to TVB Entertainment News, serving as a Cantonese-language anchor and field reporter under a basic artiste contract. In 2013, he participated in the program "Dream Star Legend," where he revealed his regret at not having given a diamond ring to his wife ten years earlier, stating he had invested all his earnings in his family, which moved many viewers and prompted the chairman of Emperor Watch & Jewellery to sponsor a 99,999-dollar diamond ring for his wife. Lam married Tong Yin-kwun in 2003 and they had a son and a daughter, with their daughter Lam Wing-yu becoming a child star. In 2019, his wife was diagnosed with leiomyosarcoma, and TVB decided not to renew his contract despite his difficult circumstances, though he received widespread support from friends. After a long battle with illness, his wife passed away in October 2020 after signing a do-not-resuscitate order and donating her corneas. In 2021, Bob Lam Chi Pok emigrated with his family to the United Kingdom.
