Biography

Paul Chu Kwong, known as Chu Keung, is a Hong Kong actor and voice actor born in September 1943 in Hong Kong. He grew up on Hong Kong Island and later lived in So Uk Estate in Sham Shui Po. He attended several secondary schools including Zhonghua Middle School, Han Hua Middle School, and Piu Kiu Middle School. He joined the film industry in the mid-1950s at the age of sixteen and became one of the leading stars of Cantonese-language films. In 1959 he joined Ling Kwong Film Company and received dramatic training alongside classmates such as Fong Ting Ting, Cheung Yee, and Li Hak. He appeared in numerous black-and-white Cantonese films, with "Tears of a Mother and Son" (1961) being the first work that brought him recognition in cinema. As Cantonese films declined in the early 1970s, he moved to television and joined TVB, becoming one of its leading stars alongside Adam Cheng, Damian Lau, and Wong Yuen-sun. He participated in period dramas and martial arts series, often portraying handsome young leads. He also worked in dubbing for imported television programs, voicing notable roles such as Detective Ironside in "Ironside." In 1990 he was nominated for Best Supporting Actor at the 9th Hong Kong Film Awards for "The Killer." In 1995 he retired from acting and immigrated with his family to Canada, settling in Vancouver and devoting himself to Buddhist studies. "Looking Back in Anger" was his final work with TVB.
