简介

Charlie Cho (曹查理) is a Hong Kong actor born on March 24, 1949 to a Hong Kong mother and a Scottish father. Before entering acting, he worked in business, then joined the film and television industry in the 1980s after appearing in an X.O advertisement. He joined Shaw Brothers and began his acting career, becoming known for playing annoying, lecherous, and snobbish characters. Among his most notable works are the film series "精裝追女仔" and "最佳損友", which are considered his representative works. In 1991, he starred as the male lead in Category III films alongside actress Yip Yuk Ching, including "情不自禁", "我為卿狂", and "卿本佳人", where his sex scenes left a strong impression on audiences. Due to his outstanding performance in the bed scenes in "我為卿狂", he was subsequently only offered roles in Category III films, which closed off other acting paths and led production companies to cast him in numerous small and medium-budget Category III films. Between 1992 and 1994, he consecutively filmed over 40 Category III films. In total, Charlie Cho has filmed over 80 Hong Kong-produced Category III films and appeared in over 280 Hong Kong films (including Category III films). Because of his involvement in filming many Category III films in Hong Kong during the 1980s and 1990s, Taiwanese media dubbed him the "King of Category III Films." He stated in an interview that he married a Canadian woman before the handover of Hong Kong, but they separated. Due to the lasting image of a Category III film actor, he is sometimes invited as a guest for events held at nightclubs in Hong Kong, Macau, and mainland China. In July 2001, he served as an operational consultant for Macau China City. In 2023, Charlie Cho publicly apologized after congratulating Bai Ying Cang, son of Bai Suo Cheng. He is the uncle of actor Julian Chung and his niece Shang Shan Na.
