張錚 (香港)
简介
Chang Tseng, originally named Chang Chiaofu, was born in Beijing in 1932 and became one of the most prominent actors and directors in Hong Kong film and television history. After graduating from high school in Shanghai, he enrolled in the mechanical engineering department at Shanghai Jiao Tong University but was forced to drop out after two months following his father's death, subsequently working as a technician at Central Airlines. He moved to Hong Kong in 1948 to pursue his career, and in 1952 joined Great Wall Movie Productions, starring in notable films such as "鳴鳳", "雷雨", and "屈原", among others. He emerged as a versatile actor in Mandarin-language cinema, taking on diverse roles ranging from young scholars and emperors to ethnic minorities and heroes. In 1969 he turned to directing and gained fame for his "oddities" documentary films such as "新疆奇趣錄" and "中國民族體育奇趣錄", earning the title "Director of Oddities." In the 1970s he joined RTV and continued acting in television series such as "新變色龍", "怒劍鳴", "再向虎山行", "皇家儷人", and "九王奪位", before retiring in the 1990s. Acting was for him a pastime while his true passion lay in directing films. After retirement he emigrated to Vancouver, Canada, where he served as vice president of the Vancouver Film and Television Professionals Association, participated in Western film productions, and engaged in charitable activities. Chang Tseng passed away on January 25, 2021, at Richmond Hospital in Richmond, Canada, at the age of 89.
