He comes from an artistic family: his sister is the singer and record company manager Linda Lamb, his younger brother is actor Jerry Lamb, and renowned film actor Ti Lung (original name Tan Fu Yung) is his uncle. He spent his childhood on Observatory Road in Tsim Sha Tsui and in Kwong Wah Mansion on Yue Kwong Road in Kwun Tong, studying at St. Teresa's Primary School in Kowloon Tong, then moving to Tak Lai House on Tai Hang Road, transferring to St. Joseph's Primary School in Wan Chai in the third grade, and graduating from St. Joseph's College. He met Xia Yongkang and Ge Minghui in 1985 at the Oblate Bai Ying Qi night school in Yau Ma Tei, and after graduating joined the advertising agency BBDO as a layout artist, while also working as a part-time salesperson at Esprit and studying advertising graphic design at the Polytechnic night school in Hung Hom. In 1988, he joined the public relations department of a commercial radio station through his sister Linda Lamb to work on radio promotion graphic design, then formed the duo "Soft and Hard Masters" (軟硬天師) with Ge Minghui under the patronage of Yu Cheng, beginning his radio career as a guest on programs "Flying Madhouse" and "Shan Shan Radio," then hosting the official radio program "Soft and Hard Mad Platform," and later "Elderly Garden Time" every Saturday evening, where segments like "Masters Tell Ghost Stories," "Underground Masters Chart," and "Prank Calls" became hugely popular among young audiences. In 1989, the duo gave their first performance at the Higher Colleges Hall titled "Soft and Hard Masters Show." In 1989, the duo recorded their first single on the album "Arrogant New Generation," the song "Eating Tribe" with lyrics by Lai Peter. In 1993, the duo released their second album "Radio Boulevard Soft and Hard Murder Case," adopting oversized skateboard fashion sponsored by Tabo San, presenting the album in rap style, with songs "Gala Gala Happy" and "Radio Boulevard Fans Murder Case" becoming classics of 1990s radio culture. That same year, the duo hosted a TV program on TVB titled "Soft and Hard Manufacturing," inviting stars to participate in games each episode.
