简介
Lee Ping Man is a Hong Kong singer born on 7 June 1961. He grew up in the Holland Street area of Sai Wan and later in Tin Wan Chuen, Hong Kong, and was the eighth of nine siblings. He attended several schools including Magdallena Canossa School, Caine Road English College, and Hong Kong Baptist Chou Ming Chi College, where he was a member of the sports team. After graduating in 1978, he briefly worked as a clerk at the same school. In 1981, his colleague and friend Shi Jin-hua encouraged him to participate in the first Hong Kong City Folk Song Creation Competition, where he won second place thanks to the song "On Last Night's Ferry," which he recorded after the original singer was busy. This work is considered one of the representative pieces of the "City Folk Song" movement in Hong Kong. In the 1970s and 1980s, Hong Kong was influenced by Taiwan's "campus folk song" trend, which led to the rise of "city folk songs" in which Lee Ping Man participated. After this musical trend faded, he stepped away from singing until his return in 2000 through the program "2000靚歌再重聚" on Hong Kong Radio. Since 2000, he has worked as a music instructor at "Music Farm" alongside Au Rui-qiang, and became a full-time instructor for guitar, piano, singing, and drumming in 2004. He also holds small concerts in community centres.
