Alex Hung
Biography
Alex Hung (original name Hu Jiarong) was born in Hong Kong. He spent his early years in Hong Kong and graduated from Tak Sun School in 1995, then emigrated with his parents to the United States during junior high school. At age 16, he worked after school at a bubble tea shop called Tapioca Express while attending Irvine High School, and later enrolled at California State University, majoring in vocal studies. During university, he worked as a private English tutor for immigrant and international students, and also held a clerical job at Dish Network. In 2004, he entered his first singing competition, and shortly afterward performed the American national anthem at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles before thousands of spectators, marking his first performance in front of a massive crowd. He then became a wedding singer for three years, building a good reputation in the local Chinese community, serving as a judge at singing competitions, working as a private singing tutor, and his last job before returning to Hong Kong was at HSBC. In 2007, his mother persuaded him to return to Hong Kong to participate in the 2007 EEG Singing Contest, through which he entered the music industry and became an artist under Emperor Entertainment Group until 2017. Shortly after signing, he began recording his first album, and his first lead single as a singer was "Solid Household". With his exceptional vocal skills and calm appearance, he emerged in 2008 as a singer relying on artistic prowess, earning him the nickname "the singer who hides a sword behind his smile". He released his first album under his original name Hu Jiarong as a joint album with fellow EEG singer Wong Jun titled "Excellent Male Voices", which some mistakenly thought was by a group rather than individual artists. Alex's personal portion of this album was titled "The New Man". However, he did not officially debut as a new artist until 2009, participating with other newcomers in activities and award ceremonies, officially beginning his musical journey. In 2010, he released his second album "Hung Music", his first solo album under his new name Alex Hung. In 2011, he participated in filming a Japanese program on TV Tokyo, acted in the film "The Sorcerer and the White Snake", and represented Hong Kong alongside Leo Ku at the 8th Asian Music Festival in Busan, South Korea.
