He attended several schools including Kong Jiao Dashi Primary School and Kong Jiao Dashi Secondary School. His first major breakthrough came in 1991 with the song "Surge," which topped three radio charts. In 1993, "Loving You as You Are" became a major hit and he considered it his turning point. He reached his career peak in the late 1990s and early 2000s, winning the Most Popular Male Singer award at the Top Ten Chinese Gold Songs Awards in 2001, the Male Singer Gold Award at the Ultimate Song Chart Awards in 1999, 2000 and 2003, and the My Favourite Male Singer award in 2002.
