Joann Tang Lai-ying, originally named Tang Lai-wah, is a Hong Kong actress, singer, and host, born on June 11, 1965. She has an elder sister and an elder brother and grew up in Sha Tin. In 1984, she enrolled at the University of Hong Kong to study for a Bachelor of Business Administration, worked part-time as a DJ at Radio Television Hong Kong and as an advertising model, and was then recruited by lyricist Lo Kwok-chim to become an artist at his production company. That same year, she auditioned for Asia Television and made a cameo appearance in the series 101拘捕令第三辑之勇敢新世界. In 1985, she joined TVB under a singing contract and began hosting various programs, including 欢乐今宵 with Chung Po-lok and co-hosting the 4th New Talent Singing Awards semi-finals with Leung Chi-wai. She also had cameo roles in the films 四眼仔 and 法外情. In 1986, she hosted the music program 劲歌金曲 and its seasonal awards with Chung Po-lok, Cheng Dan-rui, and Lam Yik-lin. She released her only album, 鄧麗盈, whose title track 傷心多一次 was a Cantonese version of the Mandarin song 明天你是否依然愛我 originally sung by Taiwanese singer Tong An-ge, but the album received a lukewarm response. That same year, she starred in the horror film 凶貓, her only leading film role, which was released in early 1987. In 1987, she decided not to renew her TVB contract due to university studies and gradually stepped away from the limelight. In 1989, she appeared in the ICAC-produced series 廉政先鋒. In 1997, she guest-hosted the RTHK program 投資本色 and then retired from the entertainment industry. After retiring, she married Jimmy Chan, the former husband of artiste Bonnie Ngai, and has a daughter and a son.
