胡敏嘉
简介
Hu Minjia, known by her stage name Rika, is a multi-talented artist from Hong Kong who bridges the world of traditional Cantonese opera and modern Japanese idol culture. Born on August 15, 1993, she grew up in an artistic environment as her maternal grandfather worked in stage lighting for Cantonese opera, exposing her to the art form from a young age. While she developed a passion for traditional opera costumes and imitating dan movements, she was also drawn to Japanese idol culture during her teenage years and participated in cosplay activities. After completing her undergraduate degree in geography at Hong Kong Baptist University, she pursued her passion for opera by studying for a Bachelor's degree in Chinese Opera at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, graduating in 2019. Simultaneously, she entered the Japanese idol world by winning a local talent contest organized by the Japanese company Alice in Project in 2015, becoming the leader of 乙女奇蹟 (Otome Kiseki), Hong Kong's first Japanese-style girl group. Following the group's dissolution in 2017, she and several other members formed 乙女新夢 (Otome Shinmu), which started as an underground idol group and gradually transitioned to a mainstream act, with Rika remaining as leader. Her career is characterized by innovative fusion of traditional and modern arts, as she adapted Cantonese opera techniques such as somersaults and backbridges into contemporary idol dance choreography. Hu Minjia received significant recognition when she was selected as one of the real-life performers whose features inspired the Cantonese opera dan figure design on the Hong Kong $100 banknote issued by Bank of China in 2018, honoring Cantonese opera art. She also works as a project manager at the 八和會館 (Pak Wo Association), the main trade organization for the Cantonese opera industry, and views all her work as equally important without distinguishing between primary and secondary careers.
