徐小鳳
简介
Paula Tsui Siu-fung (Xu Xiaofeng) is one of the most distinguished and veteran singers in Hong Kong's music history, born in Wuchang, Hubei in 1949 and raised in Hong Kong's Yau Ma Tei and later Sha Tin. She comes from a large family and stopped schooling after Junior Secondary One to support her family, working in several jobs before entering the singing world. Her artistic career began in 1965 when she won the "Hong Kong Nightingale Singing Contest" despite having no formal vocal training, and she managed to convince her initially opposed parents to allow her to sing. She was nicknamed "Little Bai Guang" in her early days due to her deep, magnetic voice reminiscent of singer Bai Guang. In 1969, she released her first official album, recording twelve songs in just two days at a Kuala Lumpur studio. She endured tough working conditions in nightclubs, singing from 8 PM to 4 AM and sometimes performing thirteen shows in a single day. She achieved widespread fame in the 1970s and was reportedly the highest-earning local female singer. She won eight major awards between 1972 and 1980, received an Honour Award at the Top Ten Chinese Gold Songs presentation in 1984, and was granted the prestigious Golden Needle Award, the highest honour in Hong Kong's music industry, in 1989. In 1992, she performed forty-three consecutive concerts at the Hong Kong Coliseum, a record that still stands as the most consecutive concerts held at that venue. She left an indelible mark on Cantopop with her husky, deep voice and unique performing style.
