Alvin Kwok Siu Lam grew up in the Diamond Mountain area of Wong Tai Sin in Kowloon, Hong Kong, and attended St. Joseph's English Primary and Secondary School. His mother was a voice actress in the area's film studios, and he has one brother. He returned to Hong Kong after completing his studies in Canada in 1986 to work at Sony Music, specializing in composition, arrangement, and production, before emerging as a singer-songwriter. He was recognized as one of Hong Kong's four top gold music producers. Among his notable works is composing "Sleep Without Rest" for Leslie Cheung, which won the 1987 Top Ten Chinese Gold Songs award, while "Confusion" and "Dream Vision" were nominated for Top Ten Pop Song awards in 1988 and 1999 respectively. His best-known self-performed songs include "Never Knew," "Love Batman," "Dream Vision," and "Confusion," while his most famous musical work overall is "Sleep Without Rest" performed by "Big Brother" Leslie Cheung, which became a hit of the year. He later focused on behind-the-scenes work and became a leading advertising music composer in Hong Kong, serving as Managing Director of Sony/ATV Music Publishing. In the pre-internet era, he created a "Love Batman" hotline using a telephone messaging system to connect with music enthusiasts. He returned to public attention among youth in 2009 after the song "Mistake" from the album "Typhoon 2006" became popular on a Hong Kong radio station. He lived in Vancouver, Canada during the 2010s, working between mainland China, Hong Kong, and Canada in behind-the-scenes advertising music work at Red Music Corporation Limited.
