Dan James

Biography

Dan James, known as 占士丁丁, is a British-born Hong Kong singer born in London, United Kingdom on 12 April 1985. He previously worked as a TVB artist and participated in the singing competition "中年好聲音3" (Midlife Singing Voice 3), where he placed sixth. Raised in London by a musical family—his father being a musician—Dan lived with his mother after his parents divorced when he was eight, then moved in with his grandmother as a teenager. He began his singing career in the early 2010s, performing in nightclubs and lounges in several Chinese cities including Beijing, Nanjing, and Foshan, spending five years in Beijing where he gained fame and earned the title "No. 1 MC Asian." However, the COVID-19 pandemic forced him to leave China and return to the UK, where he lived with his father and stepmother and worked two jobs—including construction site labor—to make ends meet. He later created a TikTok account and went viral with a comedic video, leading to a contract with a Chinese company for live-stream commerce. In October 2023, he returned to Hong Kong to pursue his dream of performing on stage. In August 2024, he joined "中年好聲音3," advanced to the finals, and finished in sixth place. He released his debut single "我的格言" in November 2025. In September 2026, he was removed from the TVB artist roster and joined the cast of the sitcom "你的保安 李宝安" on HOY 77.
