Ji Zhaozhi

Biography

Ji Zhaozhi is a Chinese Gezaixi opera actress specializing in female (Dan) roles. She was born in Xiamen in January 1933. She began learning Gezaixi opera in 1945 under Mr. Hong Benzhong, and later studied under Mr. Shao Jianghai starting in 1949. In 1951, she joined the Xiang Troupe of the Longxi region (now the Xiang Troupe of Zhangzhou City). She began teaching Gezaixi opera at Xiamen Art School in 1987 and is now retired. On January 26, 2008, the Ministry of Culture of the People's Republic of China included her in the second batch of representative inheritors of the national intangible cultural heritage project for Gezaixi opera, making her one of four Gezaixi artists on that list.
