Zhou Zhuoran

Biography

Zhou Zhuoran is a Chinese Peking opera actor specializing in the sheng (male) roles. He holds the title of National First-Class Actor in China. He works at the Shanghai Peking Opera Theatre. He is best known for his leading role in the modern Peking opera "The Harbour" (海港), which was classified among the eight model operas (样板戏) during the Cultural Revolution. In this opera, he portrayed the character Han Xiaoqiang, an educated young worker who grew up under the new system. One of his most famous arias from this work is "After Work Like a Horse Unleashed" (下班好似馬脫韁).
