简介

Sima Nan (born Yu Li) is a Chinese political commentator born on June 22, 1956 in Heilongjiang Province. During the Cultural Revolution, he joined the Heilongjiang Army Corps, and in 1977 enrolled at Heilongjiang College of Commerce (now Harbin University of Commerce) and joined the Chinese Communist Party. After graduation, he worked as a government official, newspaper reporter, and TV program host. He became prominent in the 1990s for his campaign against pseudoscience and exposing fake spiritual healers and fraudulent doctors. In 1997, he successfully sued the "divine power master" Shen Chang as a legal representative for the Workers' Daily, winning the case two years later. In 1998, he exposed the quack doctor Hu Wanlin, who was exploiting patients by prescribing massive doses of mirabilite for profit. In 1999, he held a press conference with American magician James Randi offering a large reward to anyone who could prove "supernatural abilities." In 2003, he was elected as an independent representative to the Dongcheng District People's Congress in Beijing. In 2006, he debunked farmer Ma Chengjie's claims that his children possessed supernatural abilities such as blindfolded reading, an incident that was listed among China's "Top 10 Scientific Hoaxes" of that year. Sima Nan is known for his staunch support of the Chinese Communist Party and Mao Zedong Thought, his strong Chinese nationalism and anti-American stance, and he remains active on self-media platforms under an MCN contract.
