Biography

Li Rentang was a Chinese film actor born on February 28, 1930, in Fusong, Jilin Province. He is one of the most prominent Chinese actors who won all three major Chinese film awards — the Golden Rooster, Hundred Flowers, and Huabiao Awards — for Best Actor. In 1949, he joined the Rehe Province Cultural Troupe and began his stage career performing in numerous plays. He became widely known through films produced by Changchun Film Studio, including "Qingsongling" (Green Pine Hills), "Chuangye" (Entrepreneurship), and "Suolonghu" (Lock Dragon Lake). In 1980, he transferred to the Beijing Film Studio actors' troupe and won the Hundred Flowers Award for Best Actor for the drama film "Leihen" (Tear Stains). After a relatively quiet period of ten years, he made a powerful comeback with "Beigao Shanlagyu" (The Accused Village Chief), winning the Hundred Flowers Award once again, along with the Golden Rooster and Huabiao Awards for Best Actor. Li Rentang was also accomplished in Chinese calligraphy, having studied running and cursive scripts and various other calligraphic styles since the mid-1970s, and held multiple calligraphy exhibitions in the 1990s. He passed away on June 24, 2002, due to a sudden heart attack in Gaoqing, Shandong Province.
