简介

He Yong was a Chinese rock musician and singer-songwriter born in Beijing in 1969, who died in the same city in 2026 at the age of 57. His father, He Yusheng, was a Chinese folk sanxian player in the China Song and Dance Ensemble. He grew up in a four-generation household and participated as a child in films, TV series, and commercials, including the 1981 film "Four Little Friends." He dropped out of school after junior high and never resumed his education. In 1994 he released his only album "Garbage Dump" (also known as "Qilin Diary"), and his style was described as metal punk, which was considered bold at the time. He was known together with Dou Wei and Zhang Chu as the "Magic Rock Trio" (魔岩三傑) after their simultaneous releases through Taiwan's Magic Stone label in 1994, and they performed a legendary concert at Hong Kong Coliseum titled "Rock Chinese Power." He Yong caused a major scandal in Hong Kong when he stated that "among the Four Heavenly Kings, only Jacky Cheung is not a clown," making it difficult for him to work in the Hong Kong music scene. He faced multiple legal and health issues, including detention in 2002 after setting a fire at home, forced psychiatric treatment for over a month, and arrest in 2015 for a knife attack. He died in Beijing from a sudden accident in 2026.
