唐雪卿
简介
Tang Xueqing was born in 1908 in Shanghai, with ancestral roots in Guangdong province. She came from a family of high social and economic standing — she was the great-grandniece of Tang Shaoyi, the first premier of the Republic of China, and the sister of renowned Cantonese opera playwright Tang Di Sheng. Her ancestors had been wealthy tea merchants in Shanghai since the Qing dynasty. In 1927, she married the celebrated Cantonese opera actor Xue Jue Xian and became a leading member of his Jue Xian Sheng Troupe. In 1933, she made history as the first female performer to appear on stage alongside men in Hong Kong following a legal change, performing in the play "The White Dragon." Tang Xueqing was one of the most prominent film stars and Cantonese opera performers of the 1930s in Shanghai, Hong Kong, and Guangzhou. She passed away in Guangzhou in 1955 at the age of 47.
