林繼賢
简介
Lin Gixian (John Lam) was born in 1959 in Hong Kong and grew up in a typhoon shelter with his family before moving to Tung Tau Chuen. His father was a civil servant, which influenced his later decision to join the civil service. He attended the Church of Christ in China Rotary Vocational School and graduated in 1976 with a specialization in electrical engineering, becoming one of the school's distinguished alumni. He worked in a textile factory before joining the government's Electrical and Mechanical Services Department, where he spent over 24 years in frontline work without promotion due to limited academic qualifications. Despite this, he excelled in energy-saving designs and represented Hong Kong in a competition in Singapore, receiving recognition from the last British governor Chris Patten. In 2004, he took early retirement and devoted himself fully to volunteer clown artistry. Known as "Uncle John," he is considered Hong Kong's first volunteer clown artist and is also called the "Evangelizing Magician." He helped establish a volunteer clown troupe and provided educational programs in clowning and magic for the youth association in 2005, and organized a lecture series on clowning, magic, and the space of life in 2007. He participated in environmental awareness events through magic shows for children at sewage treatment plants.
