黃婉華

简介

Huang Wan Wah was born in Calgary, Canada, and moved to Hong Kong with her family at age three. She was raised by her mother after her parents divorced when she was seven. She studied at St. Paul's Secondary School before continuing her education in Canada. She graduated from the University of Calgary in 2012 with a Bachelor's degree in Marketing and worked as a marketing manager at Deloitte Education Group until April 2015. Inspired by Paulo Coelho's novel "The Alchemist" and encouraged by her mother, she applied to the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts and graduated from the Acting programme in June 2019 with an Honours Bachelor of Fine Arts in Drama. During her studies, she received the HSBC Hong Kong Scholarship and Jaeger-LeCoultre Scholarship three times, along with multiple awards including Outstanding Actor Award and Dean's List Award. In March 2020, she joined the theatre company "Tong Lau" as a resident actor until May 2021. In April 2022, she gained attention for her portrayal of a Filipino domestic helper named "Louisa" in TVB's "Barrack O'Karma 1968", though her darkened skin and accent imitation sparked controversy regarding racial insensitivity and blackface, leading to public apologies from both TVB and Huang herself. She currently works as a freelance artist, event host, and drama instructor.
