简介

Tong Yeuk Ching was a famous Hong Kong character actress born in 1922. Her father was Tang Huai Qiu, a notable figure in Chinese cinema history. She began acting at age fourteen and became a leading performer in her father's China Traveling Drama Troupe, touring across China. After World War II she moved to Hong Kong and worked in films. In the 1960s she suffered a serious illness and withdrew from public life for over a decade, returning in 1976 when she signed with RTV due to old friends there and a desire to perform again. She suffered from heart disease which gradually reduced her appearances to guest roles. Her most celebrated performances included playing Empress Dowager Cixi in the film "Secrets of the Qing Court" and "Grandma Ho" in the TV series "Chameleon." She died on May 19, 1983 at Queen Elizabeth Hospital of a heart attack at age 61, with her final role being in the ATV drama "Never Submit" as the mother of actor Wang Wei.
