简介

Joey Meng Yee Man was born in Hong Kong to a family with roots in Shanghai and grew up in Ngau Tau Kok Sheung Chuen Block 9 and Yuen Long in the New Territories. She attended Munsang College Primary School and Chung Sing School, then continued her secondary education at the Chinese Christian Church Kei Yuen College. She grew up in an unstable family where her father had a volatile temperament and a strained relationship with her mother, and her parents divorced when she was eighteen. After graduating from secondary school, she worked at a bridal boutique and became a part-time model due to her striking appearance and tall stature. In 1989, ATV staff saw her advertising photos and invited her to compete in the Miss Asia Pageant, which she joined out of a desire to experience air travel for the first time. She won second place with strong public support and signed with ATV as an official artist. She began her television career with a supporting role in "The Big Driver" and quickly became one of the station's most prominent stars. In 1990, she took on her first leading role in "The Blue Moon," and at age twenty she became one of ATV's top leading actresses alongside Koon Wah Hueng, Christine Ng, and Yvonne Yung. She starred in leading roles in "Cello and Point 38" and "King of Winners." In 1995, she played the lead role of Takeda Yumi in the major drama "Fist of Fury," and in 1996 she starred as Lan Fong Ping in "I Have a Date with Spring," which brought her widespread fame in mainland China and Taiwan. In 1998, she portrayed Ma Xiaoling in "My Date with a Vampire" with a remarkable performance that won audience acclaim, and she won Best Actress at the ATV Awards to become the "ATV Queen," cementing her status in the entertainment world. With several leading actresses departing the same year, Joey Meng became ATV's top star. "My Date with a Vampire" eventually ran for three installments, and the character Ma Xiaoling became her most iconic and enduring role in the audience's memory. In 2004, she left ATV due to the station's reduced drama production amid financial losses.
