简介

Nina Li Chi was born on December 31, 1961 in the dormitory of the South China Drama Troupe in Guangdong Province and grew up in Shanghai. Her father Li Yongxi was a stage actor with the Guangdong South China Drama Troupe. She studied at Qingfeng Middle School in Shanghai, then immigrated to Hong Kong with her father in 1981, where she worked as a furniture store salesperson before traveling to the United States in 1983 to study economics at the University of San Francisco. She returned to Hong Kong in 1986 and participated in the Asia Television Miss Asia Pageant, winning the title among over 2,000 contestants, defeating fellow contestant Chan Yik-shi. Writer Ni Kwong praised her as "a beauty seen once in fifty years." She represented Hong Kong at the Miss Asia Pacific Pageant in September 1986, placing fourth and winning three sub-titles: Best National Costume, Miss Peace, and Miss Photogenic. In 1991 she founded the charitable organization Ren Mei Qing Xu under the Miss Asia name. She was discovered by Raymond Wong and invited to act in films, becoming known in Hong Kong entertainment for her figure and sensuous image, though media reports also noted she faced exclusion and humiliation from peers. She retired from acting in 1992. She met Jet Li in 1988 while filming "Dragon Fight," and they married in Los Angeles in 1999 after an 11-year secret relationship, having two daughters together.
