简介

Lu Xiu-ling (formerly known by her stage name Lu Hsiu-ling) is a Taiwanese actress and pipa player, born in Taiwan on January 29, 1962. She began learning piano as a child and graduated from the Huagang School of the Arts. In 1979, she gained recognition in the pipa performance competition on TTV's "Five Lights" program, winning first place in the solo competition, which launched her into the entertainment industry. She joined Chiung Yao's Star Film Company as a leading actress, adopting the stage name "Lu Hsiu-ling," and starred in numerous romantic and literary films. Her unique charisma quickly made her a star, and as Brigitte Lin gradually reduced her romantic film roles, Lu was seen as a potential successor. After Chiung Yao left the film industry, Lu continued acting in other films, most notably the controversial "Shy Soe – Heart Lock," which gained international attention when Penthouse recommended it for Japanese distribution. She also starred in the Japanese film "Ready to Shoot" directed by Koji Wakamatsu. Around 1993, she reverted to her birth name "Lu Xiu-ling" and released pipa albums, the last being "Cold Strings, Deep Feelings" in 1997. In June 1997, she married Aiven She, European president of Warner Brothers film production, and moved to London that August. She later lived in Manhattan, New York, and currently resides in Shanghai, China. She underwent ovarian surgery due to a gynecological condition and has not had children after marriage. In 2007, she settled in Shanghai with her husband, and in 2012 returned to Taiwan after 15 years to attend a friend's event. Since 2014, she has collaborated with the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra and Shanghai Conservatory of Music on the Shanghai Orchestra Academy with the New York Philharmonic, was appointed an international consultant in 2015, and became a founding board member of the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra Council in 2016.
