Sum Chi-wah
Biography
Sum Chi-wah is a Hong Kong actress born in 1946. She was active in the entertainment industry during the 1960s. In 1965, she joined six other actresses who had started as Cantonese film child stars — including Fung Su-bo, Chan Po-chu, Siu Fong-fong, Sit Ka-yin, Wong Oi-ming and Fung Po-po — in a sisterhood ceremony known as the "Seven Princesses of Cinema," with Sum Chi-wah ranking second in age. She was among the earliest of the group to retire from show business, ending her acting career in 1973 after completing the film "Stand Tall." Her sister was Cantonese film actress Sum Yuet-wah, and her nephew is Hong Kong singer and actor Choi Hing-lun. Her notable films include "The Charming Bird," "Golden Christmas Night," "Mrs. Wang Tsai," and "Youth Rose." Her first marriage was to Mandarin film actor Kim Chuen, with whom she had one son; after their divorce she remarried and has lived in the United States for many years. In 2017, she made a guest appearance in the TVB television series "The In-Laws," reuniting on screen after more than fifty years with fellow Cantonese-era actresses Sit Ka-yin and Fung Su-bo.
