简介

Leung Sheung Yin was a Hong Kong Cantonese film actress active from 1939 to 1951. Her screen debut was in the Cantonese comedy film "The Flirtatious Doctor" in 1939. She appeared in more than twenty Cantonese films. Her final film was the Cantonese comedy "Peach Blossom Luck" in 1951, in which she played a character named Leung Chun Yeung. She lived with He Bang Chou, the son of the "He Sheng Li Farm" in Sha Wan town, Panyu county, Guangdong province, who had studied in Japan. During World War II, they cohabited. In 1947, she sued him in a Guangzhou court, accusing him of breaking his marriage promise, and requested the dissolution of the engagement and compensation of $20,000. On 9 November 1947, the court ruled in her favor, granting the dissolution of the engagement. On 24 March 1949, He Bang Chou was traveling on the steamer "Peace" from Guangzhou to Hong Kong. Around 10 p.m., as the ship passed the Lijiao River, it struck a mine placed by the Chinese Communist Party and sank. Over 400 passengers were killed or injured; He Bang Chou was crushed to death by chairs and tables, wearing a diamond ring valued at over HK$40,000 on his finger. Cantonese opera singer Cheung Yuet Yee survived the incident.
