简介
Grace Ng Nga Yee (Ng Yee), originally named Ng Siu-ping, was a Hong Kong film actress of Taishan, Guangdong origin. She had a difficult childhood; her father had served as a puppet county governor for the Japanese Imperial Army during World War II and later fled to America for business, while her mother worked in tax collection in Jiangmen and later ran a laundry in Kowloon. She studied at Tung Fang School and won a speech contest at age 14, then acted in the drama "Thunderstorm" after entering Heung Kong School. In 1953, her music teacher recommended her to work as a contracted actress at Chung Luen Company, earning HK$300 per film. She debuted in "Spring" (1953), followed by "Autumn" and "The Good Earth". In May 1954, she died at age 18 from bleeding after an abortion performed by an unlicensed doctor. She was buried on 18 May 1954 at Wah Shek Cemetery in the New Territories, funded by her film industry friends.
