简介

Xu Renxin, original name Yang Shufang, was a Cantonese opera actress and film actress from Hong Kong and the United States. She was born in Guangzhou in 1920 into a Cantonese opera family, with her adoptive mother being Xu Xinglin. She was a disciple of Cantonese opera actress Guan Yinglian. She attracted audience attention when she played the role of "Renxin" in the opera "Liang Shanbo and Zhu Yingtai" with liveliness and charm, after which she adopted "Xu Renxin" as her stage name. Before World War II, she performed in the Philippines with Lu Feihong. During World War II, she formed a duo with Ren Jianhui during the all-female troupe era in Guangzhou, and they were hailed as the "Golden Boy and Jade Girl," traveling together to Macau for performances. Later, she was engaged to perform in the United States. In 1950, she returned for the first time to visit Guangzhou under Communist rule, and in August 1953 officially joined the "Southern Troupe" in Guangzhou as an actress. In January 1983, she came to Hong Kong for three months to retrieve items that had been stored in a Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation safe deposit box since the 1950s. Xu Renxin passed away in Guangzhou on May 25, 2022, at the age of 102.
