She grew up in a well-off family; her father was a lawyer, university professor, and deputy director of the Guangdong Tax Bureau, who passed away in 1954. She was educated at St. Rose of Lima Girls' School in Macau and completed her secondary education in Hong Kong in 1961. She entered the film world in 1962 when she moved to Thailand and starred in the film "Seven Tigers Conquer Tyrants" at the request of the Thai Prime Minister's brother, which allowed her to meet political figures. She left cinema in the 1970s and faced massive debts, leading her to flee to mainland China in 1974 where she declared bankruptcy, becoming the first person to declare bankruptcy in Hong Kong history, and paid off all her debts within four years through exceptional determination. She later transitioned to work in aviation and satellite technology in China, and revealed in 2008 that she had gathered intelligence for the Chinese Communist Party in the 1960s, adding a mysterious and legendary dimension to her career.
