黃小鳳

简介

Huang Xiaofeng is a Chinese Cantonese opera actress from Guangzhou, who was the leading female role performer in all-female Cantonese opera troupes. She participated in the "Jinjingduo Troupe" in the early 1920s, performing in Shanghai and Tianjin, and took over the leading female role after Zhang Shuqin left for Thailand. She later led her own "Jinghuaying Troupe," which debuted at the Tai Ping Theatre in Hong Kong in March 1919 with the new opera "Love Sea and Double Rings." She faced trouble with authorities in Guangzhou when the opera "Sending Cold Clothes at Night" was banned as obscene. After the decline of all-female Cantonese opera troupes in Guangzhou, she traveled to America and performed in Havana, Cuba. She returned to Hong Kong in July 1927 aboard the presidential steamer. She also made a guest appearance in the film "Resistance" in 1936, part of director Guan Wenqing's war trilogy, performing a Cantonese opera solo.
