简介

Ding Hao, born Ding Baoyi in 1939 in Portuguese Macau, was of Cantonese ancestry from Dongguan. She moved between Shanghai and Vietnam in her childhood due to her father's work, then immigrated to Hong Kong in 1950. In 1955, she applied to the international film company MP&GI, where directors Yue Feng and Zhong Qiwen noticed her and signed her as a basic actress. She debuted in 1956 with her first film "Green Hills and Valleys" and rose to fame in 1958 with "Little Sweetheart," which gave her her famous nickname. She was one of MP&GI's second-tier starlets in the 1950s, ranking behind major stars like Ge Lan, You Min, and Lin Cui, and alongside actress Wang Lai. In 1963, she terminated her contract with MP&GI and briefly hosted radio programs at Lai Sing. She then attempted to revive her career in Cantonese films but was unsuccessful. She separated and divorced from her husband in 1965, with custody of their son going to her former husband. She immigrated to Los Angeles, USA in 1966, and the following year, amid professional and marital difficulties and longing for her son, she committed suicide while holding her son's photo, at the age of 27. She left four farewell letters addressed to her ex-husband, her boyfriend Mr. Yang, and two male friends.
