简介
Catherine Chau Ka Yee is a Hong Kong actress born on July 23, 1979. She grew up in Mei Foo, Sham Shui Po, Kowloon and later in a residential area at Sai Wan, Hong Kong Island, with two elder brothers; her father worked in the insurance industry. She learned piano from a young age and attended St. Clare's Girls' School, where she was a member of the school choir, dance club, and basketball team. After completing Form 5 in 1996, she entered a dance competition organized by Lam Ching-feng's "Star Factory" and won, earning a one-year dancer contract. Before becoming an actress, she worked as a backup dancer for concerts by Hacken Lee, Leon Lai, and Jordan Chan. In 1998, she enrolled in TVB's artist training course and upon graduation joined TVB as a basic contract artist, initially appearing in supporting roles. That same year, she was invited to appear in the film "The Lucky Guy." She gained recognition for playing the cleft-lipped girl "Mao Siu-kam" in "The Dance of Passion" and "Tsang Chor-ya" in "Fly with Me." In 2009, she received a "Most Improved Female Artiste" nomination at the TVB Anniversary Awards and enrolled in a three-year Higher Diploma in Legal Executive Studies at HKU SPACE. In 2012, she was invited by Wong Wai-kwok to join HKTV, where she played her first leading role in "The Menu." After HKTV failed to obtain a license, her career hit a low point; she auditioned for film roles and worked in mainland China, with friend Charmaine Sheh secretly recommending her. "The Menu" eventually aired in 2015, and her role as "Fong Ying" earned her "Best Actress" at the virtual "Golden Emma Awards" poll. She appeared in films including "Office," "The Menu," "29+1," "Women of the World," and "Project Gutenberg," for which she was nominated for Best Supporting Actress at the 38th Hong Kong Film Awards and won Best Supporting Actress at the 25th China Huading Film Awards. She joined Emperor Entertainment Group in 2019.
