简介

Wang Fengqing (1883–1956) was a Peking Opera Laosheng actor of the late Qing Dynasty. His given name was Xiangzhen, also known as Fengqing, with the courtesy name Renzhai and the sobriquet Xiweng. His ancestral home was in Qingjiang, Jiangsu (within present-day Huai'an city), and he was born in Beijing. He was the younger brother of the Peking Opera master Wang Yaoqing. He initially studied Wusheng (martial roles), then studied Laosheng under Jia Juanchuan and Li Shunting. He performed with the Sixi troupe, later receiving guidance from Wang Guifen, who personally taught him plays such as "Taking Chengdu" and "Cinnabar Mole." He mastered Wang Guifen's essence and became famous as a Laosheng actor of the Wang school. He served as an imperial court performer in the late Qing and collaborated extensively with Mei Lanfang. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, he taught at the Chinese Opera School. His representative works include "Wenzhaoguan," "Taking Chengdu," "Cinnabar Mole," "Yucangjian," "Capturing the Marshal's Seal," and "Huarong Road." His son Wang Shaoqing was a noted musician. He resided in several Beijing neighborhoods including Dalangying, Hujatan (now Hujia Hutong), Damashenmiao (now Peiying Hutong), and Chunshu Hutong (now Baishu Hutong).
