马锦
简介
Ma Jin, also known as Ma Hui Hui, was an actor in the Xinghua opera troupe during the late Ming dynasty in Nanjing. He was said to have ancestry from the western regions. He worked diligently and immersed himself in life to master his roles. In a famous competition with the Hua Lin troupe in the play "Ming Feng Ji," he lost to another actor playing the corrupt minister Yan Song. To improve his performance, he moved to the capital and worked as a servant in the household of the corrupt minister Gu Bingqian for three years, carefully observing and imitating his behavior and expressions. After returning to Nanjing, he surpassed his former rival, who became his student, and gained wide fame for his exceptional acting skills. The author Fang Fangyu wrote about him in his essay collection "Zhuang Hui Tang Wen Ji."
