Luo Pinchao (1911–2010), born Luo Zhao Jian in Nanhai County, Guangdong Province, was a renowned Cantonese opera performer. At age 12, he entered a Cantonese opera training class at an orphanage in Guangzhou, and later studied at the Drama Research Institute affiliated with the Bahe Guild. In 1931, he began his professional career with prominent troupes and collaborated with opera legends such as Xue Jue Xian. He was celebrated for his roles in plays like Jing Ke, Lin Chong, Xue Ping Gui, and Yang Wu Lang, and developed his distinctive "Huilong Qiang" vocal style. He joined the Chinese Communist Party in 1950 and won the First Prize at the National Opera Observation Performance in 1952. He served as Vice President of the Guangdong Cantonese Opera Theatre and Vice Chairman of the Guangdong branch of the Chinese Dramatists Association. In 2004, at age 93, he performed the lead role in Jing Ke and was recognized by Guinness World Records as the oldest performing artist with the longest stage career in the world — a record that remains unbroken. He continued teaching and promoting Cantonese opera until his death. He passed away on July 15, 2010, at his home in Guangzhou at the age of 99.
