简介

Chen Sisi was a Hong Kong actress born in Shanghai in 1940, originally named Chen Limei, of Ningbo, Zhejiang origin. Her family moved to Hong Kong in 1953 after she studied at Zhengxing Girls' School in Shanghai. She began her film career in 1955 when she joined Great Wall Film Company. Her first role came in 1956 in the film "Ming Feng" as Wan'er, and her breakthrough came in 1957 with "Red Lantern," which made her a star and the company's exclusive leading actress — she was the only Great Wall star never loaned to Phoenix. Along with Xia Meng and Shi Hui, she was known as one of the "Three Princesses of Great Wall." In 1963 she played Qiuxiang in "Three Smiles," which became a massive hit in mainland China in the late 1970s. In 1964 she starred in "The Jade Bow," a pioneering new-style wuxia film. She married actor Gao Yuan in 1961 after a courtship beginning in 1959, but their marriage faced severe strain when he joined the rightist Shaw Brothers studio in 1968, prompting her to leave Great Wall and join Ronghua Jiancheng Company at an annual salary of 100,000 dollars. After five years of separation, they divorced in 1974, and Chen Sisi retired from acting in 1972. She passed away on October 7, 2007.
